Faithworks
One of the neatest concepts in the Christian Faith is Servanthood. Jesus said, "If you want to be great in God's kingdom, learn to be the servant of all."
When sharing a final meal with his disciples, Jesus took on the role of servant, washing everyone's feet. The disciples were humbled by this, but also confused. They wondered if Jesus was to be the great leader of the people, how could he act as a servant?
The answer becomes clear as the drama of the cross and resurrection unfold. Jesus brought himself low (taking on our sins) and praying for our lives with his life. Jesus demonstrated servanthood and calls today's followers to act in the same way. Most of us will not be called to give our lives for another in the sense of dying for one another. But God does call us to be fully committed servants willing to live our faith for others. Sacrificed love speaks volumes. This year the First United Methodist Church of Marshall is beginning a program called "Faithworks" which will provide an opportunity for everyone to be a servant.
